We do not have a set number as this tends to vary with each cycle.

Each week there are two general meetings that serve as a debriefing on the proceedings of each sub team’s progress over the past week and offer a chance for updates for any action items the team may need to discuss (i.e. taking sign ups). In addition to these two meetings, there are individual sub team meetings throughout the week. It is highly encouraged that all members, new or returning, attend as many meetings as they can to get a better sense of the systems of the car as a whole. However, it is required that at minimum, members attend their respective sub team’s meeting each week.

We understand that joining the team marks a major transitional period. We ask that while you’re participating in onboarding you make strong efforts to attend sub team and general meetings as frequently as your schedule allows, and get involved in our new member training sessions and/or participate in sign ups to provide an extra set of hands to any of the necessary projects. The more involved new members get early on, the more they’ll be able to understand and get involved with later on.

As the goals of the team evolve with each iteration, so do the demands placed on our subteams which means new member tasks tend to fluctuate on a yearly basis, further allowing us to push the limits of what new members can get involved with early on. That being said, we’ve attached some pictures to serve as examples of tasks previous new members have engaged in.

All new members are assigned a sophomore or junior level member who will serve as a mentor for their first semester on the team. Mentors will be a new member’s first point of contact on the team and help introduce their mentees to the team structure and their respective sub team. Additionally, sub teams will hold various forms of training for both software and fabrication handling such as: CAD, Altium, Welding and Fabrication, Rapid harnessing, Composites, and many more.

As a new member there is free rein to the number and types of activities one can get involved with. It is encouraged that new members take full advantage of the countless on-going projects across all three systems, so that they can get a better sense of what they enjoy doing and can make an informed decision the following year, when they’re asked to rank their top three sub teams for selection.

Each year, to celebrate the end of our January Manufacturing period the team goes to Texas Roadhouse and enjoys a fun dinner the weekend before classes start. Beyond that, there is an annual Halloween party where members privately coordinate group costumes with their grade and showdown against the other classes. It’s always a fun time and does a great job of strengthening ties between incoming fall members and introducing them to the real team culture.

While building a safe, comfortable, and rules compliant car is at the core of our efforts, we also strongly emphasize the value of a healthy work balance. As such, there are several team socials organized by the business team throughout the year such as paintball, concerts, dinners, go karting events, and many more that help our members decompress and boost team morale. Additionally, due to the close knit nature of the team , many members can be found engaging in impromptu socials like the average boba run, rock climbing, sailing, or something as simple as sitting together in the office or B60 to get homework done.

Absolutely! We have all sorts of tasks that can be supplemented and supported by any type of major. We are looking at the applicant, not their major. As long as you’re willing to learn, dedicate yourself, and are passionate about the team, we’d love to have you!

Being on our business team gives members an incredible opportunity to not only help represent the team through things like our website, merchandise, alumni network, hype video, Instagram, LinkedIn, sponsor relations, and fundraising events, but it also gives members the ability to get involved with competition as well. The business case is an integral portion of our performance at competition and would not be made possible without the tireless work of our business lead and team.

We have two recruitment cycles each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. If you don’t make the team, but still really want to join, please consider applying again next recruitment cycle! Each application cycle is viewed as a clean slate for any and all applicants regardless of if and how many times they’ve applied previously. We will only look at the updated application sent in, and not consider former applications while deliberating.
